Farther down the rabbit hole

Since all of us got together earlier this year, it’s been our intent to build a world-class blog network alongside a world-class blog consulting agency – and do both with flair.

In many ways, we’ve succeeded – having established ourselves as a category leader in the area of blogging news – and by snagging a few high profile clients and blog networks for our consulting business.

As we came upon our four month anniversary, it has become clear that being bleary-eyed at all hours of the day and trying to be all things to each other – and to our audiences – that we had to take a hard look around and choose a path.

For some of our team, their heart was with the consulting world. The ability to design, to guide others, to create a beautiful blog out of what was a boring WordPress or Movable Type theme – or the joy inherent in helping a client achieve what they set out to do.

For others, their heart was with the creation of news, of building a community, of sharing their passion for blogging and other topics that we cover in the network.

For me, I stick to a famous British playwright’s quote when he said:

Where you go, go with all your heart

So with a mixture of hope and sadness, we announce that our consulting arm, Problogging, along with a few of our sites, will be leaving our network to venture on their own. David Krug, our VP of Sales & Marketing, will go with them to lead this new venture.

As a part of this spinoff, Mobile Herald, Gadzooki, College Happenings, and Poker Moments will move out of our network into the new venture. Going with them will be David’s personal site Jack of All Blogs. Chris Pearson and Ben Bleikamp will move on to the new venture as well.

Matt Craven will remain at BlogMedia as he was before.

We wish David, Chris, and Ben success with Problogging. If you’re looking for great design or help setting up a blog or blog network – look no further than these three!

biz.erati is reborn as Biziki

Our business blog began its life as a part of our now-absorbed Erati Media¬†division as biz.erati. A few weeks ago, we moved it over to its new home at¬†Biziki, installed a new team of three bloggers. We’ve been quite pleased with the results so far.

The new team of Alex Conde, Brian Yalung, and Katelyn Thomas bring a wealth of business savvy and experience to Biziki.

Alex is a licensed Certified Financial Planner here in the states.

Brian Yalung is an executive and entrepreneur with an emphasis in marketing, business development, and information technology. He’s armed with a master’s in Business Administration and an undergraduate business administration education from two of the top schools in the Phillipines today.

Katelyn Thomas is a small business owner who loves the excitement and challenge of running a business. She currently edits and publishes Cecil Child, a parenting magazine for Cecil County, Maryland.

All three of them are doing a great job dishing out common sense business advice to their readers.

BlogMedia, Inc. acquires 9rules, Inc.

BlogMedia, Inc. has continued the growth of its online services division & blog network by acquiring 9rules, Inc., http://www.9rules.com, from its owners.

This is BlogMedia’s second acquistion of 2006, having earlier acquired The Blog Herald in February.

“9rules is the perfect addition to BlogMedia’s network offerings, ” said BlogMedia Senior Vice President Matt Craven. “The addition of this community to our network brings with it the great creative arts of its members, including beautiful design, great content, and a highly interactive community.”

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. And yes, this is an April Fool’s Joke.

Successful Blog moves to b5media

One of the sites that joined us from the Fine Fools Network has moved over to b5media.

Liz leaves on good terms. Successful Blog and Erati/BlogMedia weren’t really made for each other – and as we worked to integrate with each other – we all agreed that it was best for Successful Blog to move on.

Liz joins a good team with folks like Jeremy, Darren, Shai, and Duncan. And all of them have been a class act throughout the transition this weekend.

We wish Successful Blog the best in the days to come.

Selling SEOmemo.com

We’re unloading one of our blogs – SEO Memo.

The principal author of this blog has had health problems and it doesn’t fit with our long term plans for the network. It’s a PR5 site.
